Heat Wave

It has been Hot Hot Hot here recently.  In fact, that's a big part of me falling behind with my posts.  It's been too hot to do much of anything.

Let's rewind to Friday the 29th of June.  The day was crazy hot.  I had dropped off Lil Bro at his grandma's in PG county, enjoyed a bit of down time with my J-Man, and swaddled PDG tight for a good night's sleep.

Then the rains came.  The wind roared.  The lights flickered.  The apartment fell silent.

I didn't really consider that the power was out.  I just listened to the crazy drunks outside howling back at the storm.  I tried to remember what 10pm on a Friday used to feel like.  Then I drifted off into the light sleep of motherhood (ready to be awakened at any moment for PDG's first, or second, or even third feeding).

When J-Man awoke at 2 he accused me of being nuts for turning off the A/C.  Then the kid awoke screaming, sweating, and overall inconsolable.

By 3am I'd confirmed that my parents did have power, that nothing was going to stop PDG from crying anytime soon, that we should probably keep a flashlight handy, and that being on the 5th floor without a working elevator makes carrying a stroller, diaper bag, and lit candles simultaneously a rough challenge.

By 5am I had arrived at Mama and Papa H's house, nursed PDG back to sleep, peeked in on the visiting adorable nephews, and curled up for just two more hours of sleep.

Thus began the crazy week of visiting family that led to such adorable photos as randomly scattered above (I'd showcase the nephews but Big Bro would rather me keep their photos private - trust me, they're adorable)
