It was brought to my attention that I might hate my coworker
Yikes!
For the record, I do not hate this person. We just spend a lot of time together. A lot of time. So, like siblings, or friends, or whatever, we might grate the other's nerves. Possibly. Maybe.
We had a mini retreat yesterday that did not involve me going anywhere but my office. During this we had some banter that may have involved me slyly flicking him off. Or flipping him off, if you're from a state where that's the norm. Both are very far from my demure, ladylike self. I don't know what got into me!
It was all fun and games, except when it wasn't, and things moved right along. But later it came up how we don't always have someone to talk to about things we are interested in. For him - baseball. For me (according to him) clothes.
HAHAHA
You're laughing, right? Because you know I couldn't give a rat's behind about clothes. When I shop the blood rushes away from my brain, making me acutely aware of hunger or an achy back. I don't talk about clothes ever.
When I rebutted with a "Whaaaa??" He was like "You know, Apple Blossom colors."
Ok, I probably did mention pink and green and how everyone wears it. Probably because he assumed Apple Blossom isn't the amazing 200,000 person event that shuts down the entire town that it is.
Even so, ok, I'll give it to him. If you haven't been to the Bloom, it could be boring to hear about. Fair enough
He wants me to care about baseball though. Baseball. If you are a baseball fan you probably still recognize that to the rest of the world this great American Pastime passes a lot of time with a little action. I still cherish memories of hitting "home runs" into the garden with my dad, or eating peanuts and hot dogs at Orioles games, but TV baseball is as nap-inducing as the weather channel.
Since we seem to agree to disagree on conversation topics, we took full advantage of an office of out-of-town coworkers and found people who care about what we care about. Sports, and talking about people who say I'm talking about clothes.
Soon it will be summer and we'll work from home and work from our parents' houses with our cutest nephews ever and work from anywhere but our warm, sticky office. And we'll get the needed breathers from one another and jump back in fully around August, when we can talk about football. One topic where we manage to agree to agree.
